Let's Read!: early years literacy toolkit for public libraries

July 5, 2017

This important free publication is part of the Reading and Literacy for All suite of documents that focus on the important role Victoria's public libraries and the State Library have in encouraging and nurturing a love of language and reading among children, and actively supporting literacy development at key life stages.

The toolkit is full of practical ideas, tips and templates that will help you to deliver your early years programs.  Find out how to:

*         plan and evaluate your early childhood sessions for the different ages and stages of participants development;

*         support positive behaviours;

*         work with themes;

*         organise props;

*         design appropriate activities;

*         be inspired by STEAM, and much more.

You'll find long lists of storytime book recommendations from your colleagues across Victoria; welcome songs and chants; and, tip sheets on sharing information with families, conversation starters and milestones in child development.

This fabulous toolkit has been created by Raising Literacy Australia, who delivered the 2016/17 early years literacy professional development program that many hundreds of Victorian public library staff participated in.

The Let's Read! toolkit, along with our other READ publications, can be found at https://www.slv.vic.gov.au/about-us/collaborations-affiliations/public-libraries/reading-literacy-strategic-framework

It's part of the State Library and Public Libraries Victoria Network Statewide Public Library Development Projects.
