Yarra Libraries has been awarded the 2016 Pierre Gorman Award for the Yarra Libraries’ Access Ambassadors Customer Service Program
The 2016 Pierre Gorman Award to a Victorian public library for a leadership initiative in the area of disability services has been awarded by the Library Board of Victoria to Yarra Libraries. The Pierre Gorman Award is valued at $25,000. Yarra Libraries will use this funding to work with Arts Access Victoria to develop and deliver a library-specific accessible customer-service training program for all Yarra Libraries staff. While all staff will be trained and share responsibility for delivering a high standard of customer service to people with disabilities, every branch will also have a nominated Access Ambassador who receives additional training and has additional responsibility to ensure that a high level of accessible customer service is maintained in their branch. The training package that this project creates will then be available through Arts Access Victoria for other public libraries to use and build on.
