Alan Butters

Alan Butters is the most experienced library technology consultant within the Asia Pacific region. He has been involved with library technologies for more than thirty years and has managed product development and R&D laboratories for Raeco International and 3M USA. Since June 2004 Alan has operated as an independent library technology consultant and has worked extensively throughout Australia and New Zealand as well as in Europe, China and the Middle East. Alan is Standards Australia’s National Expert in Library RFID and is also active in international library standards development, being co-author together with Paul Chartier (UK) of ISO 28560-2 and ISO/TS 28560-4.

Les Firth

Les has extensive IT experience. This includes technical and project management roles with IBM assisting a range of companies realise their IT objectives. As the IT manager at Yarra Plenty Regional Library from 2006 to 2016, he helped implement many of Christine Mackenzie’s innovative initiatives. With a small team of 3 people, he managed relationships with key network, computer product and services organisations to high levels of network and system availability.  In 2012-13, an extensive rollout of the NBN allowed the provision of high speed internet to all YPRL branches. Les received the MAV LGICT Award for Excellence in 2013 for this project. Les has a special interest in bringing clarity and understand to statistics; he presented on statistics at VALA 2010 and has helped several library services improve their statistical recording and reporting.

Marion King

I am a management consultant, with a wide range of experience in management and leadership roles in the information/knowledge management sphere. I have worked in Public, University and TAFE libraries and most recently as the Victorian Parliamentary Librarian. I believe that staff are fundamental to the success of an organisation and that enabling them to contribute to the current and future directions of their organisation, recognising their talent and providing opportunities for them to excel, are key contributors to organisational success.  My areas of expertise are in information and knowledge management, education, government and the public sector.
