PRAHRAN Library has a new $3 million home, just around the corner from the former library.
The new library, inside the main auditorium of Prahran Town Hall will be open to the reading public from next Monday. The former Chapel St library shut its doors after 26 years. Stonnington Council agreed in 2007 to relocate the service, which was outgrowing its existing site, into the Town Hall off Greville St.
The new library is nearly twice as big as the former one and includes more areas for reading, computer use and the collection, as well as two events rooms. Over the next 18 months, the former library space will be converted into a conference/venue facility, available for public hire.
The public were invited to celebrate the library’s official opening on Wednesday, August 19, from 10am to 6pm.
